About Open XML
Office Open XML (commonly referred to as OOXML or OpenXML) is an XML-based file format specification for electronic documents such as spreadsheets, charts, presentations and word processing documents.
The templates that Xpertdoc Studio 2007 uses are actually OpenXML documents made thanks to Word 2007 with the Xpertdoc Ribbon installed. They can be read even if Xpertdoc 2007 is not installed, but it must be installed if you want to access the advanced functionalities of Xpertdoc.
Furthermore, Xpertdoc Studio 2007 generates OpenXML documents which can be read and modified with Microsoft Office Word 2007.
There are many reasons why OpenXML is important to us and why it should be for you too as users:
- The new files are much smaller than their older versions
- The new format is extensible (we use our own namespace elements in Xpertdoc Studio 2007)
- The documents are very secure (it is now easy to ensure that no macros nor other active content lingers in documents)
- The data (document content) is easily accessible from other applications
- It is an open standard
- It builds on the overwhelmingly dominant established base for word processing tools and documents (Microsoft Word)
- It is soon to become the de facto file format for the vast majority of corporate users
